What is Hybrid Fibre Coax (HFC)?

Hybrid Fibre Coax (HFC) delivers an internet connection via a coaxial cable network.

During construction, Intelligent Home installs a conduit from the external connection location to a designated internal wall point, typically labelled “Fibre Conduit.”

An NBN technician will then:

  • Run a coaxial cable from the street to the outside of the home

  • Feed the cable through the installed conduit

  • Terminate it at the designated internal point

For HFC connections, the technician will also install a black device called a Network Termination Device (NTD).

Once installed, you can connect your service provider’s modem to the NTD to access the internet.
