Speaker Cabling: Overview of wiring
Intelligent Home runs 4-core speaker cabling for each zone required in the home. This 4-core cable is split into 2 pairs, Red & Black and White & Green. The White wire has a red stripe, and the Green wire has a black stripe to distinguish between positive and negative.
The 4-core cable runs to the first speaker, loops and then is run to the second speaker location.
- Connecting my speakers to my prewired speaker cables.
When it comes to fitting the speakers off, follow the below process:
- At the non-loop end, strip back the outer sheath of the cable to expose the 4 internal wires
- Cut away the white and green wires leaving the red and black.
- Strip 20mm of the red and black sheath away exposing the inner multi strand copper.
- Twist the multi strand copper together and fold it over on itself halfway.
- Push the copper into the speaker to secure in place.
- At the loop end, strip the outer sheath of the cable away – DO NOT CUT THROUGH THE CABLE.
- Cut straight through the white and green pairs only in the middle leaving some length on both ends.
- Strip 20mm of the green and white sheath away exposing the multi strand copper on one side.
- Twist the multi strand copper together and fold it over on itself halfway.
- Push the copper into the speaker to secure in place.
- Before installing this speaker, please test to make sure sound is coming through. If there is no sound, strip 20mm of the green and white sheath away on the other side and repeat steps 9 & 10.
