No TV Channels? How to locate and check that your VDU has power

If you are not receiving any TV channels, your Video Distribution Unit (VDU) may not be powered.

If You Have a Smart Wiring Panel

If your home has a Smart Wiring panel installed:

  • Open the panel and locate the Video Distribution Unit (usually positioned at the top right).

  • The unit will be connected to black TV aerial cables.

  • Check for a red LED light on the top right of the unit.

If the red LED light is off, the unit is not receiving power.

Please ensure:

  • The power plug is securely connected

  • The power outlet supplying the unit is switched on


If You Do Not Have a Smart Wiring Panel

If your home does not have a Smart Wiring panel, the VDU is often located:

  • In the roof space

  • Near or above the manhole

  • Connected to a GPO (power outlet)

Please ensure:

  • The power plug is securely connected

  • The GPO is switched on

  • The red LED light on the unit is illuminated
